Faubion Malinois Co-Ownership Program
At Faubion Malinois, we breed with a purpose.
Our goal isn't simply to produce beautiful Belgian Malinois. We want to produce dogs that can work, compete, perform, and live full lives with families who understand and appreciate what makes this breed so special.
Because we keep our breeding program small, we are extremely selective about the dogs we retain for our future. Occasionally, we have a puppy that we believe is exceptional enough to contribute to our program, but rather than keeping that dog here with us, we would love for them to grow up in the right working or sport home.
That's where our co-ownership program comes in. A Faubion Malinois co-owned dog lives with their family as a beloved companion, and sport or working partner while remaining a part of the Faubion Malinois breeding program.
This is a partnership built around a shared goal: Giving an exceptional dog an exceptional life while preserving valuable genetics for the future of our program.
Who Is Our Co-Ownership Program For?
Our co-ownership opportunities are very limited and are intended for homes that genuinely want to develop and do something with their dog.
We are looking for competitive sport and serious working homes interested in pursuits such as:
- Protection sports, including PSA and IGP
- Detection and scent work
- Search and rescue
- Dock diving
- Barn Hunt
- Agility
- Other legitimate working or performance sports
You don't have to already have a wall full of titles.
What matters to us is that you have the experience, commitment, and desire to develop your dog to their potential.
We want these dogs out doing things.
A co-owned Faubion puppy isn't simply being placed as a future breeding dog. They are being placed with someone who wants to train, compete, work, explore, and build a life with their Malinois.
Why Do We Offer Co-Ownership?
We believe exceptional dogs should be able to live as cherished family members while still contributing to the future of the breed and our program. We can only keep a limited number of dogs in our own household while still providing them with the individual attention, enrichment, training, and experiences we believe they deserve.
Co-ownership allows us to retain access to exceptional genetics without keeping every promising breeding prospect in our own household. Just as importantly, it allows us to build relationships with people who believe in what we are doing at Faubion Malinois and want to be part of that future.
For us, this is about more than breeding. It's about finding the right people for the right dogs.
Not every puppy will be offered on a co-own. Co-ownership is reserved for puppies that we believe have exceptional potential and may have an important place in the future of our breeding program.
That decision may be based on a combination of:
- Structure and physical development
- Temperament
- Drive and working ability
- Pedigree and genetic diversity
- Sport or working potential
- How the individual dog fits into our long-term breeding goals
What Does the Co-Owner Receive, and What Is Expected of the Co-Owner?
Depending on the individual agreement, co-owner benefits may include:
- Reduced upfront puppy cost
- Breeding-related health testing costs covered by Faubion Malinois
- Compensation from successful litters
- Potential puppy-back arrangements from future litters
- Reduced-cost training opportunities through Faubion Malinois
- Continued support and involvement from Faubion Malinois as the dog develops
The exact terms, benefits, and responsibilities will be outlined in an individual co-ownership agreement for each dog.
Co-ownership is a partnership, and we want our co-owned dogs to receive the same level of care and commitment that we would provide ourselves.
The co-owner is responsible for the normal expenses and responsibilities of owning a dog, including:
- Quality food
- Routine veterinary care
- Preventative care
- Training and continued education
- Exercise and enrichment
- Maintaining the dog's physical condition
- Providing a safe and appropriate home
- Pursuing the agreed-upon sport or working goals
- Communicating with us about significant health, behavioral, or training concerns
Most importantly, we expect our co-owned dogs to be loved, trained, challenged, and enjoyed.
Breeding & Program Responsibilities
Because the dog remains part of the Faubion Malinois breeding program, there are additional responsibilities associated with co-ownership, most important being that the co-owner agrees to make the dog available for breedings.
Females
When a co-owned female is ready to be bred, she will return to Faubion Malinois for breeding, pregnancy, whelping, and raising her litter. She will return home to her family once the puppies are weaned.
The exact number and timing of litters will be determined individually and will always take into consideration the dog's health, age, condition, veterinary recommendations, and our long-term breeding goals. In general, we would like 1-2 litters from a co-owned female.
Males
Co-owned males will have shorter visits to Faubion Malinois when needed for approved breedings; generally, a male's breeding stay will be 1-2 weeks at a time.
Health Testing
Breeding-related health testing is an important part of responsible breeding, and Faubion Malinois will cover the cost of required health clearances associated with evaluating a co-owned dog for our breeding program. Making the dog available for all health testing appointments is mandatory.
Location Requirements
Because co-owned dogs need to remain reasonably accessible for breeding, health testing, evaluations, and other program needs, we generally require co-owners to live within approximately two hours of Faubion Malinois in Sanger, Texas.
Exceptional circumstances may be considered on an individual basis, but proximity is important for making the partnership work well for everyone involved.
This Is a Partnership
We want to be very clear about what co-ownership is and what it isn't. This isn't simply a way to purchase a breeding dog at a reduced price, or to make a profit. Training, titling, competing, and developing a serious sport or working dog is a significant investment of both time and money. We are looking for people who understand that commitment and are excited about it. We are looking for people who genuinely believe in our program and are excited to help develop one of our dogs.
You will be raising this dog. Training this dog. Competing with this dog. Working this dog. Living with this dog. We want to know that the person on the other end of the leash is just as invested in the dog's future as we are.
One of the biggest themes in the working-dog world is simple: put in the work.

What About Breeding Rights for Other Breeders?
Co-ownership opportunities with other established breeding programs will be considered separately from our working and sport-home co-owns. For approved breeding programs, we can outline a customized arrangement that benefits both programs while maintaining the breeding ethics that are important to both parties. We are open to working with other breeders when our ethics align.
